The number of bricks used in building an oven will depend on;
- The type of bricks being used
- The size of the oven
- To a greater extend, the experience of the builder (experience means no wastage of bricks)
These notwithstanding, the average home-based ovens require on average 200 123x57x257mm fire bricks and about 275 tapered bricks. While the former require more motor, the latter require less mortar. Experience counts when cutting some bricks to build the arc. Those with no experience will possibly cut the brick wrongly resulting more wasted materials. In addition to regular construction bricks, the pizza oven will also require fire bricks to serve as the base or hearth of the oven. These bricks are especially designed to withstand extreme temperatures without cracking.
